Police law

We have a long history and experience of acting for the Metropolitan Police and other Police forces around the country defending civil claims for malfeasance including claims for wrongful arrest, malicious prosecution and assault.

Some of these cases have been high profile Jury trials and we have also actively assisted in managing the media response. Our expert team are familiar with issues that can arise on disclosure and in preparing witness statements with public interest immunity, protected witnesses and handling material under the Official Secrets Act. Two of our lawyers are also security vetted up to Developed Vetted level.

We understand the Police environment and the issues that can arise and are used to working with force solicitors and their legal departments, either as part of a team or as Agents on aspects of cases.

Police Discipline

  • We were instructed to advise and represent officers in disciplinary proceedings arising out of the Lawrence Inquiry;
  • continue to advise on Police discipline issues and are currently instructed by a Police and Crime Commissioner to advise him in connection with a managed investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission; and
  • represented Police bodies in judicial review proceedings arising out of a fatal shooting and the subsequent investigation into the use of firearms.

Operational advice

Our team have advised on issues surrounding the appointment of senior officers and provided advice in connection with Anti-Terrorism measures on public transport and the regulatory framework. We have also advised Police clients on contracts for Policing specific buildings and sports arenas.
