How to avoid legal danger in a start-up

In an article by the Financial Times, lawyers have issued words of warning to those considering leaving their jobs to begin a start-up business. They advise that thinking about potential future pitfalls is a must before investing.

For example Hollie Gallagher, partner in BDB’s corporate and commercial team, explains that many companies fail to protect their intellectual property (IP) at an early stage:

‘IP is something that doesn’t seem to matter when you’re jogging along and everything is fine, but if somebody infringes your brand, you have to own the underlying IP if you want to protect it.”
