In my first career I studied the inner workings of materials. I hold a BSc and a PhD in physics and I have worked in academia and in government labs. I published around 30 research papers, mostly in international journals. In 2007 I began to realise my long-held ambition to pursue a law career, studying the GDL at City that year. I have just completed my LPC. Of the many things that drew me to law I would single out the opportunity to use one's intellect and abilities to make a tangible difference to people's lives - so much more than solving problems in a vacuum.
As many other trainees will testify, BDB doesn't take an identikit approach to recruitment, and the firm values people who have succeeded outside the law beforehand, something I greatly appreciate. I like many sports and make enthusiastic (but sporadic) efforts to stay fit. My two older brothers ensured I grew up with an irrational love of Manchester United and Port Vale football clubs. Cooking gives me a lot of pleasure, as does reading 20th-century literature. I play the guitar, and if not actively discouraged I sing too.
