Applying online may be a fast process but your preparation for it should be thorough. So before you log on, gather information about yourself, Bircham Dyson Bell and the legal profession. And follow these commonsense tips.

  1. Be sure you have the academic requirements we're looking for.
  2. Answer each question fully and properly, giving clear evidence of your skills and qualities.
  3. Tell us what you’ve done, but also what you learned from it.
  4. Write your answers out in rough first, and check before completing on-line.
  5. Spell-check your application, and get someone to proof read it.
  6. Print a copy of your application for future reference.

 

Online Tests

If you’ve never completed an online test before, try to get some practice in. We’ll also give you some test questions to help you understand how they work, before you take the online tests for real.

  1. Make sure you are relaxed and ready before you start the test.
  2. Ensure you’re in an environment where you can concentrate.
  3. If you’re stuck on one question, give your best answer.
  4. Make sure you take the test yourself as you may be re-tested.

 

Interviews

Before your interview:

  1. Make sure you know where you’re going and who you’re meeting.
  2. Leave yourself plenty of time, so you won’t be stressed or late if there’s a transport delay.
  3. Do your research. Be ready to discuss why you want to join us. Know the key facts about us and the training contract process.
  4. Review your application before your interview.

During the interview:

  1. Your interviewer will be looking for past evidence of your strengths and achievements.
  2. Be yourself. Relax, smile, and answer as honestly as you can.
  3. Speak clearly and concisely.
  4. Listen to the question and make sure your answers are relevant.
  5. Think about the questions you want to ask us. An interview is a two-way process and you need to decide whether we’re right for you!

Finally, remember that the interview process is a valuable learning experience. Be yourself, try to enjoy it, and if you aren’t successful at the interview, ask for feedback so that you can improve your performance for next time.
